The Equipped Workshop
This Event is Hosted by the YMCA of Central Virginia
Kids today are growing up in a digital world where connection is constant—and so are the risks.
Join us for a free parent workshop, open to the public (registration required), in partnership with Freedom 4/24. This session is designed to help you better understand the challenges facing today’s youth and how to protect your child online.
This workshop will give you practical, real-life tools to recognize warning signs, navigate social media and gaming platforms, and build stronger, more open communication with your child.
What You’ll Learn
How kids are interacting online through apps, gaming, and social platforms
Common warning signs of unsafe or concerning behavior
How to talk with your child about online safety in a way they’ll actually respond to
Steps you can take to protect your child and set healthy boundaries
What to do and where to report concerns if something doesn’t feel right
Why It Matters
Online risks are evolving quickly, and many parents feel unsure where to start. This workshop is designed to give you clarity, confidence, and practical steps you can use right away.
At the YMCA, child safety is part of everything we do. This workshop is an extension of our participation in Five Days of Action, a national YMCA movement focused on protecting children from abuse and helping families navigate safety—both in person and online.
