Director of Communications and Marketing
Johanna is an awarded journalist with a wealth of print and television journalism, communications, and business experience. Johanna's first career in TV news as a news and weather anchor, reporter, and producer resulted in national Emmy, Peabody, and Edward R. Murrow awards for team coverage of extreme weather events and the Virginia Tech shootings. Johanna has also taught Editing and Multimedia courses in the Journalism department at Liberty University.
Following a seven-year chapter as an owner and editor of five regional magazines, including the ADDY award-winning Lynchburg Living, Johanna responded to God's leading to pursue her passion for fighting human trafficking. She first understood the reality of this atrocity when she traveled to the red light districts of Thailand in 2009 with Freedom 4/24 founder Christine Gelatt. Since that time, Johanna has taken multiple trips to Freedom 4/24 partners around the world to work with victims and survivors.
Johanna and her husband, Daryl, love to restore old properties in their down time, and live with their two daughters in a circa 1900 cottage they rehabbed in Lynchburg.
